Scorpion Infestations – How They Got in Your Home
Realizing you have a scorpion infestation is baffling and can be scary at the same time. While many people associate scorpions with newer construction and homes on the deserts edge, this is not always the case, and in most times from what we see just a coincidence. Scorpions can become a problem almost anywhere in the Las Vegas metro area.
Below we’ve listed out the most common ways we see that scorpions enter and set-up residence in homes.
Easy Access For Scorpions
Want scorpions in your home? Just about everyone will of course say no to this, yet leave easy access to let these pests in. Conducting checks around windows, doors, plubing, HVAC, and vents should be the first places homeowners should check. Other frequently accessed areas are cracks in siding and stucco, easy access between your homes foundation and siding and stucco, and un-messhed crawlspace vents.
Don’t make it easy for scorpions to enter your home. Seal up cracks, damaged siding, gaps in siding/stucco around plumbing and HVAC pipes, and repair screens on windows and crawl space vents.
The Scorpions Hitched a Ride In
Scorpions by their very nature like to hide in concealed places, as such it’s easy to unintentionally bring one or a few into your home without noticing them. Before bringing in anything from outside, a careful inspection should be conducted to ensure your not bringing in these pests. Following are frequently missed objects or items that should be inspected before bringing into your home: boxes from outside such as Christmas decorations, patio furniture, camping gear, kids toys, laundry if you hang it to dry, rugs, pet bedding, blankets and towels.
Don’t invite a scorpion in by letting them hitch a ride in.
The Scorpions Were Already There
If you moved into your home recently, it is possible that scorpions had already taken up residence. Scorpions can hide almost anywhere, therefore it can be a challenge to eradicate these pests.
If you have a landlord, contact them to let them know about the scorpion infestation. If you purchased the home, it may be on you to correct the problem, if you purchased a home warranty, check the fine print to see if pest control and extermination services are covered.
